Ballpoint heads, drawn on order slips and cut out of the paper they were made on.
Drawings made in a single ballpoint colour on the order slips that came to hand, hatched until the head reads as solid, then cut free of the sheet so that the silhouette becomes part of the drawing.
They are the source the larger work draws on: the crowns, the stacked faces and the long tapered skulls all appear here first, at the size of a thumb.
