Ink is worked on the plate and pulled once, so the branch is only ever suggested — a smear, a broken line, a spray of black where the pressure caught — and no two pulls repeat.

At this scale the gesture carries the whole sheet. What the press takes away is as much a part of the image as what it leaves behind.
